Juried Art Exhibition 2022 MOAH:CEDAR's Annual Juried Exhibition 2022 June 4 - July 31, 2022 Back to All Exhibitions The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are thrilled to announce the 37th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition. This year's show will be hosted in-person. In this annual exhibition, artists of all ages and experience levels from around the Antelope Valley and the 5th Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County are welcomed to participate. The exhibition will celebrate participating artists with a special opening reception on Saturday, June 4 from 6PM-8PM. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. where over $1,000 will be awarded to participants by the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation and various small businesses, community organizations, public officials and other sponsors. The exhibition will run from Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, July 31. This year’s jurors are Heather Bowling, Mike Che, and Mika Cho. As in previous years, the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation will consider each of the Best of Exhibition winners for acquisition into the Museum of Art and History’s permanent collection. Visitors are encouraged to follow @MOAHCEDAR on Facebook and Instagram and vote for their favorite pieces by taking a photograph and posting on social media using the hashtag #MOAHPeoplesChoice or vote in person up until the week of closing at MOAH:CEDAR. The Lancaster Museum of Art & History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR were pleased to host CEDARFEST Student, the Museum's High School Student Arts Festival! Hosted at MOAH:CEDAR, a space that has a longstanding history of being recognized as the community hub of art and culture, the student-driven exhibition kicked off with a one-night festival and awards ceremony celebrating the young artists. Featuring college recruiters, art demonstrations, a DJ and a well-known local food truck, this highly anticipated event was an unforgettable evening for students and community members alike. Media categories featured in the exhibition include: painting, drawing, ceramics, digital and film photography, 2D and 3D mixed media, and short film. Festival liaisons were Jennifer Newman-Bird from Littlerock High School, and Robyn Young, from Eastside High School.

“Beyond the Blue” is a traveling exhibition of over 100 works of art created in California by incarcerated individuals participating in weekly arts programming through the Prison Arts Collective (PAC). The artists included seek to transform their lives through art and aim to shift society’s stereotypical image of ‘inmate’ or ‘prisoner’ by sharing their personal expressions, goals, and talents to demonstrate their shared humanity. The Prison Arts Collective now facilitates weekly programs in eight California state prisons and will expand to twelve institutions by 2020. The project’s multidisciplinary arts classes are led by a collaborative team of teaching artists, university students, and peer facilitators. The program also offers a comprehensive Arts Facilitator Training program for incarcerated individuals that want to grow as leaders and mentors by facilitating art classes. The PAC is founded by Annie Buckley, Professor and Director of Art + Design at San Diego State University, and supported by Arts in Corrections, an initiative of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council.

The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce CEDARFEST 2019, the Museum’s annual high school student art exhibition! Hosted at MOAH:CEDAR, a space that has a long standing history of being recognized as the community hub of art and culture. This highly anticipated event promises an unforgettable evening for students and community members alike. CEDARFEST will take place on Friday, April 12 from 4 - 9 p.m. and will include a special open mic student showcase at 7pm following the awards ceremony. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, May 12, 2019. The gallery will be open to the public during MOAH:CEDAR’s hours of operation, Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Beginning Saturday, April 13.

The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce the Museum’s 33rd Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception celebrating local artists on Saturday, May 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m. an awards ceremony will take place where over $1,000 will be awarded to participants. The exhibition will run from Saturday, May 5 through Sunday, June 3. This year’s jurors include local, and regionally recognized artist, Tina Dille, and Director of Los Angeles-based artist marketing firm, Shoebox Projects, Kristine Schomaker. Artists interested in submitting work should note that the Museum will only accept entries online, through CaFE (www.callforentry.org). For those unfamiliar with online submissions, information sessions detailing the process will be available at MOAH on April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their work through CaFE’s online system during these sessions with the assistance of MOAH staff. The entry period for the 33rd Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition runs from now through April 27. Each additional submission (up to three pieces total) will charge an additional $5, which will be submitted for jury. Jurors: Tina Dille has been painting animals for over thirty years - gaining recognition from galleries and exhibitions across the state. Mainly working with watercolors, Dille has had the great honor of being featured in the prestigious California Watercolor Association National Exhibition. Best known for her large scale Raven paintings, Dille has exhibited this body of work at Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), the Bakersfield Museum of Art and Ridgecrest’s Maturango Museum. Dille lives in the Tehachapi Mountains. Kristine Schomaker is an Art Historian, art advocate and multidisciplinary artist living and working at the Brewery artist complex in Los Angeles, California. She earned her BA in Art History and MA in Studio Art from California State University at Northridge where she studied under Betty Ann Brown and Samantha Fields. Leading an active life in the arts, Kristine has taught art history at Antelope Valley College and Pasadena City College, formed an artist collective in Los Angeles and has organized and curated numerous art exhibitions throughout Southern California. For three years, Kristine was the President, social media, advertising and marketing manager of the Brewery Artwalk Association, running the semi-annual Brewery Artwalk. Most recently, she founded Shoebox PR to help visual artists create a presence in the art world. Selection Process: Local artists, meeting all eligibility requirements, will have one piece guaranteed acceptance in the exhibition. Artists who submit more than 1 piece will have their addition artwork juried into the exhibition. The Jurors will select which artwork will be exhibited by careful examination of all submitted entries; including those submitted for the 17 and under category. With no exceptions, Jurors have the sole responsibility for the selection of artworks. MOAH and MOAH:CEDAR reserve the right to not display work that does not meet eligibility requirements or follow the guidlines herein. Eligibility: Works must have been completed within the last three years and not previously exhibited at MOAH or MOAH:CEDAR. CEDARFEST is open to all artists working with all arts media, including photography, video, audio, painting, drawing, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D and clay. Artists of all ages are welcome to submit, 17 and under must have their parent's permission. Jurors will select the Best of Exhibition, 2nd Best of Exhibition and 3rd Best of Exhibition awards donated by the Lancaster Museum & Public Art Foundation (LMPAF). Best of Exhibition winners will receive, in addition to their cash awards, the opportunity to participate in an exclusive portfolio review with MOAH's curators. As in years passed, LMPAF may choose to offer to purchase any Best of Exhibition award winner for inclusion in the Museum's permanent collection. This year, local artists may opt-in to be considered for the Emerging Artist Workshop Opportunity Award. The winning artist will be provided with small stipend to host an Emerging Artist Workshop, in which they will work with MOAH staff to organize a presentation on their work or technique to the public on Saturday, July 29th from 6 to 8 PM. Visitors are also encouraged to follow the Lancaster Museum of Art & History and vote for their favorite pieces using #MOAHPEOPLESCHOICE on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The artwork earning the most votes will receive a special prize at the closing of the exhibition. Many other awards are also available, including the Beryl Amspoker Memorial Award, the Dean Webb Memorial Photographic Award presented by the Lancaster Photography Association, an award presented by the Lakes and Valleys Art Guild, as well as, media awards and honorable mentions. MOAH staff will be on hand to work one-on-one with these artists to submit their work online on Thursday, April 25th from 3 to 6 PM. All 2D works must be framed and wired with D-rings or eye hooks. The hanging device, attached to 2 points on the back of the frame, should be strong enough to take the weight of the work without becoming stressed or warped. If using wire, ensure that it is not crimped, creating a weakness. Artwork must be no larger than 36 inches in any dimension and must weigh less than 50 lbs (3D work). Any special display requirements or equipment of accepted works must be provided by the artist upon drop-off. Michael James The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are pleased to present Hands That Feed Us , a solo exhibition by artist Michael James. The exhibition will be on view from October 11 through November 30, 2025, at MOAH:CEDAR. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, October 11, from 4 to 6 PM. MOAH:CEDAR’s newest exhibition, Hands That Feed Us , highlights the critical yet often overlooked labor of migrant farm workers in the United States. Through James’ self-described style of Chromatic Stylized Realism, Michael James portrays farm workers not as anonymous laborers but as essential figures at the foundation of American life, individuals who sustain the nation while receiving little recognition or protection.. The exhibition addresses powerful themes such as narratives of migration, the heroic demands of agricultural work, and the complex realities of immigration and border politics. “In this series, I’m asking viewers to pause and consider the people whose labor quietly sustains our daily lives. To understand their journey to get to this place, the labor they perform, and the daily challenges they face. Farm workers are often unseen, yet they carry the weight of our nation’s food supply. We depend on them both economically and practically. Through these paintings, I hope to open a space for recognition, discussion, and reflection,” said artist Michael James. Michael James was born in Southampton, New York and currently lives and works in Southern California. James was trained in figurative painting at the Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago. He has exhibited nationally and internationally in both museums and galleries. His work has received numerous accolades, including Best in Exhibition at the 40th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition at MOAH:CEDAR, and Excellence in Painting award at the 2024 LA Open Juried Show at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles, CA

Her artwork has been shown internationally and in the United States, including the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, LA Artcore, The Brand Library and Art Center and DAC Gallery. Sherwood’s work and curatorial projects have been included in several publications including Artillery, Art and Cake, ArtHabens Contemporary Art Review, LA Weekly, MurzeMagazine and Voyage LA. Steven r. CALZADA Artist and Educator Steven R. Calzada, an accomplished artist and educator in the Antelope Valley Union High School District since 2000, is known for his innovative curriculum and commitment to student creativity, earning multiple accolades, including Teacher of the Year. A UCLA Fine Arts graduate, he studied under renowned artists Chris Burden, Charles Ray, and Jorge Pardo. He actively exhibits locally and leads professional development initiatives, fostering collaboration among educators. Samantha Herrera Curator of Exhibits, Ontario Museum of History & Art Samantha Herrera, Curator of Exhibits at the Ontario Museum of History & Art (OMHA) earned her B.A. from the University of California, Riverside. Starting nearly a decade ago as an art preparator, she has been key in developing and installing numerous exhibitions, utilizing her extensive institutional knowledge and curatorial insight. Sam is committed to promoting the Inland Empire’s arts community and fostering connections with artists from outside the region.

Uncovering Existence: Selections from the Museum's Permanent Collection February 15 - March 16, 2025 Uncovering Existence: Selections from the Museum’s Permanent Collection highlights selected works in the Lancaster Museum of Art and History’s (MOAH) permanent collection, showcasing a diverse range of artworks acquired by the museum over the past three decades. The exhibition presents work in a variety of artistic media and methods, ranging from abstract and representational painting, to photography, sculpture, and ceramic. Uncovering Existence features the work of 35 different artists at various stages of their artistic careers including: Abel Alejandre, Adrian Anguiano, April Bey, Perez Bros., Brooks Byrd, Lavialle Campbell, Doctor Eye, Lanise Howard, Suda House, Cynthia Ona Innis, Jorge A. Jimerez Jr., Christine Kline, Gary Lambert, Kevin Kowalski, B. Robert Moore, Mahtab Mohammadi, Sheila Pinkel, Elyse Pignolet, Melanie Walker, Samuelle Richardson, Melissa Reischman, Christopher Russell, Jim Seargeant, Katherine Stocking-Lopez, Jane Szabo, George Van Saake, Vyal Reyes, Amir Zaki, Manuel Zamudio, and Stevie Love, as well as, the 2024 All-Media Juried Exhibition winner Francis Robateau.
