CEDARFEST 2018 Antelope Valley Union High School District March 20, 2018 - April 20, 2018 Back to All Exhibitions The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce the Museum’s 33rd Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception celebrating local artists on Saturday, May 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m. an awards ceremony will take place where over $1,000 will be awarded to participants. The exhibition will run from Saturday, May 5 through Sunday, June 3. This year’s jurors include local, and regionally recognized artist, Tina Dille, and Director of Los Angeles-based artist marketing firm, Shoebox Projects, Kristine Schomaker. Artists interested in submitting work should note that the Museum will only accept entries online, through CaFE (www.callforentry.org). For those unfamiliar with online submissions, information sessions detailing the process will be available at MOAH on April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their work through CaFE’s online system during these sessions with the assistance of MOAH staff. The entry period for the 33rd Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition runs from now through April 27. Each additional submission (up to three pieces total) will charge an additional $5, which will be submitted for jury. Jurors: Tina Dille has been painting animals for over thirty years - gaining recognition from galleries and exhibitions across the state. Mainly working with watercolors, Dille has had the great honor of being featured in the prestigious California Watercolor Association National Exhibition. Best known for her large scale Raven paintings, Dille has exhibited this body of work at Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), the Bakersfield Museum of Art and Ridgecrest’s Maturango Museum. Dille lives in the Tehachapi Mountains. Kristine Schomaker is an Art Historian, art advocate and multidisciplinary artist living and working at the Brewery artist complex in Los Angeles, California. She earned her BA in Art History and MA in Studio Art from California State University at Northridge where she studied under Betty Ann Brown and Samantha Fields. Leading an active life in the arts, Kristine has taught art history at Antelope Valley College and Pasadena City College, formed an artist collective in Los Angeles and has organized and curated numerous art exhibitions throughout Southern California. For three years, Kristine was the President, social media, advertising and marketing manager of the Brewery Artwalk Association, running the semi-annual Brewery Artwalk. Most recently, she founded Shoebox PR to help visual artists create a presence in the art world. Selection Process: Local artists, meeting all eligibility requirements, will have one piece guaranteed acceptance in the exhibition. Artists who submit more than 1 piece will have their addition artwork juried into the exhibition. The Jurors will select which artwork will be exhibited by careful examination of all submitted entries; including those submitted for the 17 and under category. With no exceptions, Jurors have the sole responsibility for the selection of artworks. MOAH and MOAH:CEDAR reserve the right to not display work that does not meet eligibility requirements or follow the guidlines herein. Eligibility: Works must have been completed within the last three years and not previously exhibited at MOAH or MOAH:CEDAR. CEDARFEST is open to all artists working with all arts media, including photography, video, audio, painting, drawing, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D and clay. Jurors will select the Best of Exhibition, 2nd Best of Exhibition and 3rd Best of Exhibition awards donated by the Lancaster Museum & Public Art Foundation (LMPAF). Best of Exhibition winners will receive, in addition to their cash awards, the opportunity to participate in an exclusive portfolio review with MOAH's curators. As in years passed, LMPAF may choose to offer to purchase any Best of Exhibition award winner for inclusion in the Museum's permanent collection. This year, local artists may opt-in to be considered for the Emerging Artist Workshop Opportunity Award. The winning artist will be provided with small stipend to host an Emerging Artist Workshop, in which they will work with MOAH staff to organize a presentation on their work or technique to the public on Saturday, July 29th from 6 to 8 PM. The artwork earning the most votes will receive a special prize at the closing of the exhibition. Many other awards are also available, including the Beryl Amspoker Memorial Award, the Dean Webb Memorial Photographic Award presented by the Lancaster Photography Association, an award presented by the Lakes and Valleys Art Guild, as well as, media awards and honorable mentions. All 2D works must be framed and wired with D-rings or eye hooks. If using wire, ensure that it is not crimped, creating a weakness. Artwork must be no larger than 36 inches in any dimension and must weigh less than 50 lbs (3D work). Any special display requirements or equipment of accepted works must be provided by the artist upon drop-off. New World Aazam Irilian December 4, 2014 Back to All Exhibitions Using her hands as her tool, Aazam Irilian’s paintings are created through combining acrylic inks, fabric dyes and oil on canvas. She begins every painting in a state of not knowing and by pouring the paint onto the canvas. This technique allows the paints to stay fluid longer and bleed into each other slowly over time—hence, the tonal variations and transparency of the colors, which create a sense of depth within the space. This results in fluidity and translucency on the surface, which are complemented by organic lines to create movement and form.

As the gardeners of our environment and lives, we need to become aware of our destiny, while sharing the responsibility and love for nature and all life as an indivisible global network that needs sunlight, air and water to continue its survival. The impermanence of our own existence is immersed and inseparable from this blue island, in the black lonely universe. The immersive and interactive aspects of the installations intend to bring an awareness to the warning signs of unintended destruction of the ocean, coral reefs and water resources via playful interactions with different kinds of beauty, set up in a possible post-apocalyptic plastic-fantastic-future." -Snezana Saraswati Petrovic

The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are thrilled to announce the 37th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition. This year's show will be hosted in-person. In this annual exhibition, artists of all ages and experience levels from around the Antelope Valley and the 5th Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County are welcomed to participate. The exhibition will celebrate participating artists with a special opening reception on Saturday, June 4 from 6PM-8PM. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. where over $1,000 will be awarded to participants by the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation and various small businesses, community organizations, public officials and other sponsors. The exhibition will run from Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, July 31. This year’s jurors are Heather Bowling, Mike Che, and Mika Cho. As in previous years, the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation will consider each of the Best of Exhibition winners for acquisition into the Museum of Art and History’s permanent collection. Visitors are encouraged to follow @MOAHCEDAR on Facebook and Instagram and vote for their favorite pieces by taking a photograph and posting on social media using the hashtag #MOAHPeoplesChoice or vote in person up until the week of closing at MOAH:CEDAR. The beauty of drawing birds opened artist Jodi Bonassi’s heart to self-reflection and to the mysteries of nature and the universe. The bird soars, linking all the elements together. Earth and sky and water all flow continuously. She looked up, away from the complications of being human. She drew and painted birds on paper and canvas. There were shopping bags accumulated during the pandemic... she re-purposed the bags and drew a bird on each one to symbolize the temporary nature of all things. Birds symbolize freedom and Bonassi wanted to be free. She was accepted to the Parliament of Owls Ayatana Research Residency - a bird residency and bird school for nature artists. She found camaraderie among other artists from all over the world. On Instagram, Bonassi now know artists globally in a deeper way. Nature is a collaborative link that is deeper. She posted on Instagram and received a tremendous outpouring of interest from bird enthusiasts, nature photographers and everyday people who want to create. Beyond patience and the wonderfully relaxing nature of studying the birds, Bonassi found others wanting her to draw the birds they had taken pictures of. This series is a confirmation that we all seek to journey together through creating. Bonassi has felt a serenity and connection to others not previously felt. Thankfully she has a lot of patience as drawing a bird requires deep concentration. Every small thought disappears. You are mindful and free to soar…

Kaps, an interdisciplinary artist, is in constant dialogue with her surroundings and those who inhabit it. Highly conceptual with the intention of altering perception and provoking thought, Kaps’ objective is to create honestly and question the status quo while reveling in a feast for the senses. Kaps challenges the viewer to decipher the common denominators and recognize the similarities within the differences that connect us regardless of age, race, or gender. What is Black and White and Pink allover? is Kaps’ latest exhibition in her Victus Versus/Striped World series, transforming the MOAH:CEDAR galleries into one of her iconic black, white, and striped installations. A new series of work by Kaps and her longtime collaborator, photographer Eric Schwabel, will also adorn the gallery as well as video installations done in collaboration with lovemando a.k.a. Armand Briones featured in the blackroom
