The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce the Museum’s 34th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception celebrating local artists on Saturday, May 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m. an awards ceremony will take place where over $1,000 will be awarded to participants. The exhibition will run from Saturday, May 25 through Sunday, June 23. This year’s jurors include Executive Director of Los Angeles Art Association, Peter Mays, Director of Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Isabelle Lutterodt and Associate Professor of Art, Antelope Valley College, David Babb. Jurors: Peter Mays is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Art Association (LAAA) and its premiere La Cienega exhibition space Gallery 825. Mays believes LAAA is now poised to launch the next phase of the 94-year-old organization's expansion and commitment to Los Angeles' emerging artists. Since joining LAAA in June 2005, Peter has implemented cultural exchanges with Switzerland (Basel), Korea, Germany and China, initiated collaborative programming with institutions like Harvard, MoCA and Otis, as well as with artists Tim Hawkinson, Lita Albuquerque and renown physicist Lisa Randall, secured the very best curators to jury LAAA exhibitions, increased LAAA's career development programs and direct services by 30% and created LAAA's public art program which was selected as one of the top public art works completed in 2010 by Americans for the Arts. In 2018 Mays was the recipient of the City of West Hollywood’s first ever curatorial grant for LAAA’s public art presentation of James Peterson’s Cacti. Isabelle Lutterodt is the Director of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Barnsdall Art Park for the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs. She formerly served as the Director of Visual Arts at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, where she curated for the gallery and oversaw a studio artist program. She holds an MFA in Photography from California Institute of Arts, Valencia, CA and an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of Leicester, Leicester, UK. Prior to moving to the UK, she curated as part of the collective M.U.L.E. exhibitions throughout the Los Angeles area focused on cultural and community based issues. In addition to curating Isabelle has worked with organizations in Europe, New York, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles developing programming that supports arts education. Organizations include: the Getty Museum, Maryland Parks and Recreation, the Fresh Air Fund, the CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP), Marlborough School in Los Angeles. David Babb is an artist and educator living in Lancaster, California. He is an Associate Professor of Art at Antelope Valley College teaching studio classes for 17 years. He has also been a lecturer at California State University Bakersfield Antelope Valley Campus. In addition to teaching, David was also the Art Gallery Director at Antelope Valley College for 11 years. His work is produced in a range of media, from painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, installation, digital illustration, video, and film and is locally and regionally exhibited. As an obsessive gardener and plant collector, David’s work often employs natural forms to reveal aspects of the human condition. His work has been featured on ARTBOUND. The exhibition, will be on view Saturday, May 25 through Sunday, June 23 during MOAH:CEDAR’s regular hours of operation, Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Community members are invited to view the art and share photos on Instagram using #MOAHJuried2019 . The Lakes and Valleys Art Guild is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 by a few local artists. Begun in the Lakes area of the Antelope Valley, the Guild has grown over the years to an average annual membership of around 75 – 100. Members are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, from professional artists to those who have a strong interest in and love for art. The goal is to give local artists mutual support and a place to display their work. Each summer, members have helped support the Fine Arts section of the Antelope Valley Fair by setting up, taking in, and hanging entries, working with fair staff to monitor and sell art for the benefit of a scholarship fund. One of the Guild’s biggest events is its annual Fundraiser and Art Auction, held each September. This event draws people from all over Southern California, offering attendees a chance to bid on original works by some of the Antelope Valley’s premier artists. Membership to the Guild is only $36 per year for an individual, and $48 per year for a couple or two family members. Art students pay just $12 per year. The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce the 39th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition for this year. Artists of all ages and experience levels from around the Antelope Valley and the 5th Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County can participate in the exhibition, submitting pieces of various art mediums. On Saturday, June 1 from 4PM to 6PM artists will be honored during an award ceremony were over $1,000 will be granted by the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation and various small businesses, community organizations, public officials, and other sponsors. The exhibition will run from Saturday, June 1 to Sunday, July 20, 2024.

After taking a step back from illustration, artist Godeleine de Rosamel has worked primarily in ceramics, creating unique life-forms and vegetation that inhabit a whimsical yet earthly domain. She embraces the innocence of her childhood drawings, bringing those creatures from the page into our third dimension. De Rosamel's interest in natural history is evident not only in her subject matter, but also in her process. She combines materials like clay, pigment, and sticks to create creatures that appear to come from a world adjacent to our own. In de Rosamel’s practice, she assumes the role of “Creator” by sculpting new species to populate her human-less utopia. In her world, politics, gender, and suffering do not exist. Instead, her charming, well-fed creatures roam freely through forests and sleep under trees. They reside in an idealized setting, where leisure and tranquility are at the forefront. Through her earthy color palette and each creature’s laissez faire demeanor, she maintains a softness and levity in her work. Her world is a utopia far from our own, and far from the devastating impacts of human activities on biodiversity on our planet.   Godeleine de Rosamel is a French artist based in Los Angeles, California. Born in Lille, France, de Rosamel’s passion for art began early when she was just a child drawing animals and taking her first ceramics class at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. In 1986, she attended the Ecole de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in Brussels, Belgium, where she graduated with a Fine Arts degree and began a career as a children’s book illustrator. Her whimsical illustrations have been featured in a number of books in France and Belgium. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles and continued her career as an illustrator for several years until ultimately switching gears and to focus on her ceramics practice.

The Lancaster Museum of Art & History and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce that, beginning this June, the museum’s annual all-media juried exhibition will be moved to the Cedar Center for the Arts. The exhibition kicks off with CEDARFEST, a one-night-only festival celebrating the artists. This year’s jurors include local, internationally recognized artist Stevie Love and Los Angeles Arts Association Executive Director and curator Peter Mays. CEDARFEST, the exhibition, will be on view Saturday, June 4th, through Saturday, July 9th, 2016. Upper and lower galleries will be open to the public during MOAH:CEDAR’s hours of operation, Thursday – Sunday, 2 P.M. – 8 P.M. Community members are invited to view the art and share photos on social media using #CEDARFEST . Visitors are also encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces using #CEDARFESTCHOICE2016 , as the artwork with the most votes on Instagram will receive a special prize following the exhibition. All exhibiting artists will receive an electronic catalog listing all participants and their displayed works. Jurors Stevie Love lives and works in Juniper Hills in the foothills overlooking the Mojave Desert one hour north of Los Angeles in an adobe house that she and her husband made by hand. She earned a Bachelors degree at California State University at San Bernardino and a Masters of Fine Art degree from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. Since earning her Masters degree, she has been developing a diverse body of work that transcends the boundaries between painting and sculpture, using paint as a sculptural medium, paint that is released from the confines of the customary rectangle, blurring the boundary between us the viewer and the relationship we usually have to painting as a pictorial metaphor, instead bringing paint to us as its own reason for being. The play back and forth between metaphor and reality gives the work a life all its own. Peter Frank has described her work as “the moment where pictorial language and mental imagination, conventional thought and erratic vision give way to one another”. MOAH:CEDAR and the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) are pleased to announce Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries , an exhibition by artist Nikolas Soren Goodich. Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries will be on view at MOAH:CEDAR from Saturday, September 28th to Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The opening reception for the exhibition will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 4 - 6PM. MOAH:CEDAR’s newest exhibition, Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries, showcases Goodich’s ability to transform his trauma, presenting viewers an opportunity to authentically connect and examine the idea of self and the imaged “other,” through the harmony and incongruence of images. His artistic practice explores the paradox of asymmetry and symmetry through monoprint profile portraits, and large scale installation, that allow for moments of quiet contemplation and close examination through its incandescent qualities . Nikolas Soren Goodich is a mixed-race Los Angeles native. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in the late 1980s, School of the Art Institution of Chicago in the late 90s and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at VCUarts in 2019. He has worked as an art preparator for 25 years at some of the most prestigious galleries and museums on the east and west coasts, all focused on fostering curatorial diversity. He is currently represented by galleries in Los Angeles and The Hague, Netherlands, with works in private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union.

This year’s jurors include local, and regionally recognized artist, Tina Dille, and Director of Los Angeles-based artist marketing firm, Shoebox Projects, Kristine Schomaker. Artists interested in submitting work should note that the Museum will only accept entries online, through CaFE (www.callforentry.org). For those unfamiliar with online submissions, information sessions detailing the process will be available at MOAH on April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their work through CaFE’s online system during these sessions with the assistance of MOAH staff. The entry period for the 33rd Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition runs from now through April 27. Jurors: Tina Dille has been painting animals for over thirty years - gaining recognition from galleries and exhibitions across the state. Mainly working with watercolors, Dille has had the great honor of being featured in the prestigious California Watercolor Association National Exhibition. Best known for her large scale Raven paintings, Dille has exhibited this body of work at Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), the Bakersfield Museum of Art and Ridgecrest’s Maturango Museum. Dille lives in the Tehachapi Mountains. Kristine Schomaker is an Art Historian, art advocate and multidisciplinary artist living and working at the Brewery artist complex in Los Angeles, California. She earned her BA in Art History and MA in Studio Art from California State University at Northridge where she studied under Betty Ann Brown and Samantha Fields. Leading an active life in the arts, Kristine has taught art history at Antelope Valley College and Pasadena City College, formed an artist collective in Los Angeles and has organized and curated numerous art exhibitions throughout Southern California. For three years, Kristine was the President, social media, advertising and marketing manager of the Brewery Artwalk Association, running the semi-annual Brewery Artwalk. Most recently, she founded Shoebox PR to help visual artists create a presence in the art world. Selection Process: Local artists, meeting all eligibility requirements, will have one piece guaranteed acceptance in the exhibition. Artists who submit more than 1 piece will have their addition artwork juried into the exhibition. The Jurors will select which artwork will be exhibited by careful examination of all submitted entries; including those submitted for the 17 and under category. With no exceptions, Jurors have the sole responsibility for the selection of artworks. MOAH and MOAH:CEDAR reserve the right to not display work that does not meet eligibility requirements or follow the guidlines herein. In Perceive Me, an installation of 73 artworks from 60 different artists, organizer and instigator Kristine Schomaker challenges society, the art world, and herself to become more accepting of human differences — especially differences in size. For the project, Schomaker asked Los Angeles-based artists to do nude portraits of her plus-size form using any media. She then took on a performative role, posing in the nude for each artist, and in turn the artists created work that reflects their unique perception of her. Instead of critiquing or shaming Schomaker’s body, which is so often the experience of plus-sized people, the artists celebrated it by creating paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, video, and even a 3-D print. As an ongoing project, the collaborations with participatory artists have become part of Schomaker’s personal creative growth and emotional healing. She comments, “Not only is the art outstanding but the love they have for me is reflected in the works. Their vision of me heals me on levels beyond the body.” Schomaker sees Perceive Me as a vital social practice, opening the door for conversations about the personal and universal values of self and society. She states that it is a “platform for empowerment, for owning who we are, for being unique and authentic, for taking back our bodies… for being true, powerful and strong no matter what body shape, size, color, or gender we are. Perceive Me is for everyone.” Kristine Schomaker is an artist, curator, and publisher living and working at The Brewery Artist Lofts in Los Angeles, California. She earned her Bachelor of Art degree in art history and Master of Art degree in studio art from California State University, Northridge. Schomaker founded Shoebox Arts in 2014, followed by Shoebox Projects, an alternative art space, in 2017. She is also the publisher of Los Angeles contemporary art magazine Art and Cake. Schomaker is currently the president of the California State University Northridge Arts Alumni Association and social media manager for the Brewery Artwalk Association.

The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are excited to announce CEDARFEST 2019, the Museum’s annual high school student art exhibition! Hosted at MOAH:CEDAR, a space that has a long standing history of being recognized as the community hub of art and culture. This highly anticipated event promises an unforgettable evening for students and community members alike. CEDARFEST will take place on Friday, April 12 from 4 - 9 p.m. and will include a special open mic student showcase at 7pm following the awards ceremony. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, May 12, 2019. The gallery will be open to the public during MOAH:CEDAR’s hours of operation, Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Beginning Saturday, April 13.

The Lancaster Photography Association (LPA) is a non-profit organization formed in the 1960s by local photographers who wanted to share their love and enthusiasm for photography. LPA promotes education, information, inspiration, and opportunity for all persons interested in photography and that supports the philanthropic endeavors in the community through photography. The exhibition, Living in the Mojave, centers around the entire breadth of life and experience present within the Antelope Valley.
